Why supporting our local community is so important

Tinmasters has been a main sponsor of the Caldicot Male Voice Choir (Côr Meibion Caldicot) for many years, until recently under our former name of Caldicot Metal Decorating.

The Caldicot Male Voice Choir is a charitable organisation that was established in 1963 for the men employed at the local steel works, which had opened the year before. Tinmasters has been involved with the choir since the early days, helping to pay for the building of the choir’s own performance hall in 1996 and making regular contributions towards the costs of putting on concerts.

As well as singing both traditional and modern Welsh music, the choir’s extensive repertoire covers many other musical styles and songs in English, German and Italian. The choir’s extraordinary versatility has led to some very exciting bookings over the years, including supporting the Three Tenors at Wembley Stadium in 1980, three separate concerts with the Welsh tenor Wynne Evans (the star of the GoCompare adverts) and another with Gareth Malone’s Military Wives Choir to raise money for Help for Heroes.

Many Tinmasters employees sing with the choir including Mark Stocker, whose father was one of the founding members. Mark says,

“I am delighted to be part of a choir that has such a strong connection with my family and place of work. There’s nothing better than singing to bring a community together, and such is the standard of the Caldicot Male Voice Choir that we’ve been able to visit some interesting places, too. We have already had a tour of Europe, and in May 2018 we will be performing in the Festival of Massed Welsh Male Voice Choirs at the Royal Albert Hall, which will be another highlight.”
